2026 Equinox Electric: Upgrades, Performance, Features and Electric Capabilities!

The Equinox EV has already made waves as one of Chevrolet’s most accessible electric SUVs, but the 2026 model takes it a step further. For drivers in Ontario who want a practical EV without the luxury price tag, this model fits right in. It keeps the smart size and everyday usability Canadians love, while improving range, power and tech features that make daily driving easier.

What’s New for 2026?

Compared to last year Chevrolet has simplified the lineup from four trims to just two main versions: 2LT and 2RS with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The FWD model now delivers 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, while the AWD model climbs to 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft. Range estimation has also improved, with the FWD version offering up to 513 km on a full charge. The AWD model follows closely with 494 km.

Bold Styling with a Purpose

Bold Styling with a Purpose

The 2026 Equinox EV doesn’t try to copy its gas-powered sibling. The front end is smooth and closed off since there’s no combustion engine needing a grille. Sleek LED lighting stretches across the front, giving it a futuristic look. The RS trim adds darker accents and sport-inspired details for drivers who want more personality. Clean body lines, a floating roof design and flush door handles help with aerodynamics and range efficiency but also make it look sharp on the streets of Ontario.

Inside, Chevrolet has stepped things up. There’s an 11-inch digital gauge display and a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen for infotainment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still missing, but built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant and other apps help fill the gap. Over-the-air updates mean the software stays current without a trip to the dealership. Passenger space is generous, especially in the back row. Three adults can sit comfortably, and cargo space reaches 748 litres with the rear seats upright and up to 1,620 litres when folded. Perfect for hockey bags, strollers or weekend road trips across Ontario.

Performance and Electric Capability

The 2026 Equinox EV rides on GM’s Ultium platform – the same foundation used for the Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. Power delivery is smooth and instant, especially in the AWD model that hits 0 to 100 km/h in around six seconds. One-pedal driving is included, meaning the SUV slows down using regenerative braking when you lift off the accelerator – less brake use and more energy back to the battery. The 85-kWh battery supports DC fast charging at up to 150 kW. Plugged into a fast charger, it can add up to 123 km of driving range in just 10 minutes. On a Level 2 home charger, a full charge takes around 9.5 hours or as little as 5.9 hours if equipped with the optional 19.2-kW onboard charger. It can also tow up to 1,499 pounds, which is more than enough for small utility trailers or recreational gear.

Safety and Driver Support Features

Chevrolet equips the Equinox EV with Chevy Safety Assist as standard. This includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, following distance indicator and front pedestrian braking. For drivers who want more advanced tech, adaptive cruise control and Super Cruise hands-free driving are available depending on the trim.

Everyday Living with an Electric Equinox in Ontario

With long range, winter-friendly all-wheel drive availability and competitive pricing, the 2026 Equinox EV fits well into Canadian lifestyles. Public charging stations continue to grow around Ontario, and home charging makes daily commuting easy. Whether you’re driving in Ottawa traffic or heading to cottage country, this SUV offers practicality without compromising performance or comfort.
